'Afternoon everybody, I have a series of small announcements I would like to make that I feel everyone should know as it affects not just the club, but also the nationals.
First of all, I have a meeting with the Sports and Societies President, Arnaud Bastianelll, as part of the Sports and Societies meeting on the 5th of February. I have not been told what the focus or content of the meeting will be, but I promise to act as best on your behalf as I can. If you have any questions or issues that you wish me raise at the forum, please let me know either here or personally.
Secondly, I have been told there will be a 'Re-Freshers Fair' on the 11th of February, which I'm given to believe is much like the Fresher's Fair. I was disappointed with our stall at the first fair and I hope we can do better this time with proper preparation. Again, I welcome any suggestions and materials donated for the day.
Now the nationals, the financial situation as I understand it at the moment, is that transportation costs will not be footed by the Union. This is not a big problem as some of you have already said you will be carpooling. For those of you who are not driving, I would recommend the megabus. I should make it clear that you will be making your own arrangements and I would suggest that if you want to stick together, book a block of tickets early to ensure you will be on the same bus at as low a cost as possible.
Phil has been researching accommodation, but has been unable to select a hotel/hostel because we have not been informed of where event will be held and is unsure where the best location in terms of transport infrastructure is to stay. We'll contact the nationals organisers as soon as possible and resolve this as quickly as we can.
The union has agreed to pay £20 towards the cost of accommodation for students of UWS only and despite my best efforts to negotiate with him, Arnaud has said he cannot cannot his position. Fortunately, he has intimated that should we be able to save some money in some areas of the budget, we can reallocate funds to subsidise accommodation for non-students.
And the topic of money brings me onto our fund-raising effort for the year. Many of you will know that we hope to run a Warhammer Fantasy and 40k tabletop tournament at the union in the second half of February/first half of March. Ross will be handling the specifics of the tournament like rules etc while I'm going to negotiate a location; hopefully in the bottom floor of the union during the evening. Outside of the club, only students will be allowed to participate in the tournament, but non-student club members are more than welcome to participate so long as they pay the entrance fee. There will be a prize, though we'll announce what it is once we know how many entrants there are and all the money raised will be used to pay for nationals accommodation; my hope is that we can cut the cost of accommodation down as much as possible if we do well. Anyone who can judge games should contact Ross about helping out.
As far as I know, these are all the outstanding issues everyone should be aware of, if you have any question, comments or queries, please post them here.
Thank you.
