I was in Static last Thursday before I came back to Burnley and the ginger guy behind the counter noticed I was buying a few WFRP 2nd Ed. books and asked if I was considering getting the 3rd Edition. I explained I wasn't going since Fantasy Flight Games weren't putting it forward in a way that appealled to me. Anyway, he mentioned that he had a prerelease in stock and allowed me to have a skim over the actual boxset. I have to say seeing the product firsthand has certainly warmed me towards it somewhat. It seems simpler than 2nd Ed (not that I consider that edition complex) and is certainly appealing to the eye. The way he described it to me was more of a board game, crossed with a roleplaying game minus the board. Despite his enigmatic explanation I must admit I'm considering selling out for it, especially since it is tailored to people new to roleplaying (much like *shudder* D&D 4th Edition.) I was just wondering what those of you with an interest in the 2nd Edition think and if you would consider buying the game or playing it?

Three words... NON STANDARD DICE The move from 1st edition to 2nd was an intelligent one which made sense. The game was rebalanced, a ton of new stuff was added, and the system was made more user friendly. The move from 2nd to 3rd seems to be a move sideways... to a different game. I get what ginger guy meant about it being boardgamey too. When I first looked into it I thought exactly the same thing. The problem I have is that it feels to me too much like a generic Fantasy Flight boardgame. Now obviously these guys have been making boardgames for some time now and have a few really good ones but I want an actual roleplaying game in my roleplaying game. Additionally, on the point about it being generic, the system doesn't feel very Warhammer. It lacks that grimdark factor. Almost as if you're playing any lightweight FF boardgame with a WFRP skin pulled over it. I do not intend to buy it. Though I may try playing it once if someone else is silly enough to actually spend money on it. PS. Why is this in the wargaming section?

I have my reservations about that particular game... Though some of it sounds interesting. I think most of it, is just a bunch of unusual features & gimmicks. Though they may add interesting factors at first will later on just cause annoyance and problems.
I would like to buy it... Though £60 is a steep price...

PS. Why is this in the wargaming section? I really don't know. Whenever I make a post I tend to gravitate towards this section for some reason.

I have read nearly every review, gone over play tests and read the designer diaries and i think i have come to decision.
I am not switching over.Warhammer was the first game i ever ran and still remains my favourite setting to this day.
While my initial disregard for 4th ed is mellowing all the time to the point where i'm starting to think it is awesome(for the fighting rules if nothing else) i don't see any inherent problems with the system although it has it's flaws.
Nonetheless i don't see me changing over anytime soon despite not running a a warhammer game in weeks although next Wednesday that will change when i start WFRP back up again.

I think the system should, at the least, be given a shot. With the kit being limited, it does feal like you're playing a board game but that said and done, if you go into it knowing that, then I think you should be fine.

True enough, I'd love a WFRP board game... with miniatures... and competitive gameplay... and a board. Unfortunately that isn't what WFRP 3 delivers. It's instead something that feels like a boardgame but when it comes down to it isn't. I'd happily spend the money that this game costs on 2nd (or even 1st) edition books, and probably get more use out of them, but this product really doesn't make me feel like parting with my cash.
