I dont believe that there is considerable overlap between the two societys and would like to know the benefits to the TCGS as we run on a different night to the Hobbits (mainly as when we started there was a huge overlap in membership) and it seems that both societys know of each other so "opening up new members" wont really happen.

its really about putting them all under the one banner, which is more weight on everyone's side for the union
also, most other uni's im lead to beleive do this, so it simplifies it and means would be easier for outsourcing.

I doubt it will add weight to be honest we may gain a few more members but the out come will probably not be benifical as we may end up with less money between the 2 societys.

The TCGS will still be able to run on a different night.
I also think that other uni's have all the games under the same banner. It would open up the opportunity for more card gamers in our own society and vice versa. The budget, as said, will not be a problem this year and as our society is growing we will get more money next year. We got very nearly the highest budget ever this year and we would like to continue growing.

While our budget will grow, our expenses will grow as well. We need to find out what expense the PGS has and see if it is viable. If they have a big expense then we will probably be a lot worse off and if they have very little expense then we may have upset coming from the PGS as we are taking most of the budget and spending it on something they do not care about.

It would not hurt to ask PGS if they would be wanting to merge as well and be under one banner. The reasoning for this suggestion is that there are several people in both these societies that are members of Hobbits. This merger would obviosly also make our society grow and prosper. In the event of such a merger.....there is a need to change the name as "Hobbits" will not project what the society is. There has already been several suggestions. Phil suggested something involving UWSXXXXX, Paul suggested GASP (Gaming association students paisley??) I suggested Paisley Gamers. Look, as president of the PGS I don't think this is a good idea. Firstly I already made a banner this year for the PGS and last year for the Debating Society, so I've had enough of making banners /jk. Secondly, and on a more serious note, our societies use different rooms, there is no way we can bring the two massive HD TVs from H305 into the E bar and I think it would be a bad idea to put even one role playing game in H305 during a PGS session- role-playing over the sound of constant gunfire, anyone? And having a society, two parts of which meet in different rooms at different times is the same as having two societies, but more confusing. And the third point- Funding, I think the budgets are getting smaller, and lumping us together would make it harder for us to get as much, and it would also be harder to get membership fees from students, they might be happy to pay £2:00 for Hobbits or £3:00 for the PGS as it stands right now, but try asking them for £5:00 and see how they feel about that. So my answer to joining Hobbits with PGS is a definite no, since we're both better off without each other, though I really enjoy going to Hobbits separately. And I'm sorry to drive home the points above so hard, but I thought of them and just had to get them out of my system. Also, merging with the card gamers could work, but two societies worth of funding and subscriptions sounds better to me, though Gaming Association Students Paisley and Paisley Gamers sound far too similar to Paisley Gaming Society, and would most likely lead to a lot of confusion. How about Card And Role Playing Paisley, C.A.R.P.P.? As for the PGS....they don't really have a large budget anyway...I think they put in expences for a pizza night last year. Even yhough PGS is a different society from us it still involves games and a few of the members in PGS are in Hobbits already. You're thinking of Debating Society. Last year the PGS was assigned £100, not quite as much as the Hobbits' £645, but then Claire didn't even submit a budget request that year, sadly she was rather overworked too and didn't manage to get around to spending the money.

I would like to say that there are no plans of merging either the TCS or PGS with the Hobbits.
However saying that, Steven wishes to get in contact with both leaders to see if a friendly support can be created that can benefit all groups.

The TCGS will still be able to run on a different night. If its being run on another night still, i dont see the point of merging as it would still essentially be a seperate entity

The Trading Card Society and The Hobbits will not be merging.
Matt and I have discussed it and have agreed that it would be best for both parties to remain seperate.
However, any member of TCS wishing to go to the Nationals will be more than welcome to come along with the Hobbits and should contact Phil as quickly as possible for details.
There are no plans to merge with Paisley Gaming Society and I would like the opportunity to personally reassure Tim that the matter is at an end.
At present, I understand the topic of a name change is a hot topic and it is up for the group as a whole to decide. When the group reaches a consensus on whether or not to change the name, then please let me know.
